When the Diocese of Changanassery was divided into the Diocese of Changanassery and the Diocese of Kanjirapally in 1977, St. John’s Province, Kanjirapally, was established in 1978.
At that time, the Mother Province of Changanassery included the convents in the Diocese of Changanassery, the mission area of Jagadalpur, and the convents in Tamil Nadu. Mother Martin Mary served as the Provincial Superior during this period.
In 1998, Jagadalpur was raised to the status of a Vice-Province and became an independent unit. Later, in 2008, the convents in Tamil Nadu were organized as a separate region.
Centenary and Present Growth
The congregation celebrated its centenary in 2008. This also marked the centenary of the Mother Province of Changanassery.
Under the efficient leadership of Mother Rose Kunnathupurayidom, the province has grown to 65 houses. These houses are located in Kerala, Germany, Italy, and the United States.
The sisters of the province also serve with dedication in the African mission.
